Bertha & Herb Tsuchiya
Asian Ministries Endowment
The Alliance of Asian American Baptist Churches (AAABC, formerly Asian Caucus) deeply mourns the loss of co-founder Herb Tsuchiya and celebrates his extraordinary legacy. Herb was around from AAABC’s beginning, when pastors and leaders formed the Asian Caucus to advocate for representation for Asian-American Baptists at all levels of the denomination. Herb’s commitment was unmatched throughout our entire 53 year history. Among the things Herb taught us:
Grace others with unconditional love and laughter
Incarnate God with acts of consistent service and sacrifice
Kindness, graciousness, generosity, love and hospitality can be imbued in every interaction
Show up. Be loyal. Be open
Forgive those who treated you abysmally, but don’t fail to teach future generations what really happened
Legal drug dealing is not one’s exclusive calling, you can be an actor, too, and reflect God in both settings
Community organizing is an act of faithfulness
Eat an apple daily
Generosity and authenticity bear witness to the goodness of God
Herb continually honored future Asian-American Baptist leaders with gifts of heart and hand, playing key fundraising roles for the AAABC Seminarian Scholarship. To honor Herb and Bertha, the Alliance has created the Herbert and Bertha Tsuchiya Asian Ministries Endowment, which supports AAABC Seminarian Scholarships and the leadership of AAABC.

Herb, you are deeply missed. As our last living founder, you did all you could to teach, inspire and help us grow - you modeled Christlikeness. God bless and keep you till we can all laugh together again. THANK YOU for everything.
